Total Immersion (TI) is the world’s most efficient, satisfying, and easiest-to-learn swimming technique; it puts you at ease in the water, then teaches you to cleverly adapt human anatomy to swim more like an aquatic mammal. Developed in America by globally respected coach Terry Laughlin and refined over 25 years with countless thousands of students, Total Immersion swimming aims to enrich as many lives as possible by improving the way swimming is taught and practised and to make the experience more accessible, enjoyable and satisfying for everybody no matter what their goal.
Total Immersion is a skill-based approach to swimming that harnesses the laws of fluid dynamics, developments in exercise physiology, cognitive psychology (how we learn) and neurobiology (train the brain as specifically as any muscle) to improve your swim. Traditional swimming teaches us to use our arms and legs to kick and pull ourselves through the water – fighting against the resistance of the water – an approach that many people find stressful and exhausting. Total Immersion swimming, however, teaches you to use heightened awareness of mind and body to develop a sleek ‘fishlike’ stroke that allows you to flow with the water, moving through it rather than fighting it, developing a stroke that is fast and efficient enabling you to swim further with less effort.
With Total Immersion, you don’t need youth, athleticism or special talents or to swim endless boring lengths to become the swimmer you want to be. It is an amazing technique that will help anyone learn to swim.
